The Central Middle School (CMS) Lady Mustangs clinched their second parish title for volleyball, finishing with an undefeated season last week.

The middle school programs in Ascension parish have continued to grow and become much more competitive since being introduced four years ago.

Under the direction of head coach John Adams, with volunteer coaches Traci Roy Adams, Robert Branum, Jessica Branum and eighth-grade captains Brooklyn Branum, Hollie Thompson and Alynzia Morris, they fought hard every single week for each win.

CMS was fortunate to have several East Ascension High School volleyball players volunteer their time to mentor and prepare this team for success. It was truly a special season.

Coach Adams told them every single week, "This next game is the biggest game of the season" no matter who they were scheduled to play. He encouraged them to treat each team like they were the last obstacle in the way of the championship.

The Lady Mustangs did exactly that. Even when they were in a tight game, behind, or lost the first set, they played to the end.

Congratulations to the Central Middle School Lady Mustangs, the 2014 volleyball champs.
