Pitch, Hit and Run coming to Ascension on May 11

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced last week that the Parish of Ascension Recreation and Culture Department will hold Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit and Run (PHR) competition on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at the South Louisiana Fairgrounds.
The PHR competition is a free, one-day event for boys and girls ages 7-14. Boys and girls compete separately, and participants have the opportunity to compete in four levels of competition including: locals, sectionals, team championships and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game.
Ajia Morand Mitchell, PARC program coordinator, said registration is now open. Participants may register online at www.ascensionparish.net, fax the registration form at (225) 473-9931 or email Mitchell at amitchell@apgov.us.
Forms are also available at the PARC offices, 45404 Stringer Bridge Rd, St. Amant and 313 Chetimaches St., Donaldsonville.
According to MLB's website, competitors compete in four age-groups: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2013.
Prizes and awards will be given at each level of competition, and competitors will receive an item for their participation. Prizes at different levels of competition include: certificates, medals, trophies and other awards. National Finalists will receive a trip to the MLB All-Star Game.
