The Ascension Marlins 7-year-old baseball team pulled off a triple-header sweep last Friday night at Stevens Park, making them the 2014 ABC Tournament Champions. Coming out of the season’s loser’s bracket, the Marlins won five consecutive games to take the championship. Playing against the league’s top teams, the Marlins sweep Friday included a 6-4 victory over the Phillies, 20-19 over the D’Backs and 17-7 over the Oriole. They played strong all the way through and never gave up. The culmination of an undying attitude, team unity, and strong leadership lead the Marlins to victories over the very teams that had defeated them earlier in the season. Special thanks go out to their coaches Vince Roddy, Chuck Sheets, Chance Blank, Clint Cedatol and Billy Mauffray.

The beginning-of-the-year Tournament Champions were the Phillies in first place, the Orioles in second and the Blue Jays in third. Season Champions were the Bats in first place, the Blue Jays in second and the Phillies in third. And the end of the year Tournament Champions were the Marlins in first, the Orioles in second and the D’Backs in third. The season started in March with practices and ended at the end of May with the final tournament. Thanks to all the coaches for their leadership and hard work. Congratulations to all the players for a job well done, it was a great season.
