It looks like this year's Gonzales Junior Grand Prix Tennis Tournament is going to be another huge success.

According to Darren Boone, Director of the tournament, there are 200 kids registered to play tennis this weekend in Gonzales. The kids range from 7 to 18 years of age, and some are traveling from as far as Mississippi and Alabama.

Last Year was the first USTA sanctioned tennis tournament ever held in Ascension parish. Darren Boone decided to try hosting a tournament and get people to come to Gonzales to experience the hospitality and nice tennis facility the city has to offer. His plan worked.

The tournament last year was so successful that it was named "2012 Junior Tennis Tournament of the Year" by the USTA- Louisiana. There are over 30 Junior Tennis Tournaments held across the state each year.

In November, Darren, his wife Wendi and a few members of the Ascension Tennis Association traveled to Lafayette for Darren to accept this award. It was a great honor to win, and Darren hopes that the 2013 tournament will be as memorable. The tournament is sponsored by many local businesses, and is held at the Gonzales City Courts.

Play is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m., and closing will be on Sunday, April 14 in the evening hours.

Darren would like to thank the many sponsors, the City of Gonzales, ATA and numerous friends of tennis for volunteering to help make this event a huge success.
