Girls on the Run 5K set for May 4

Girls on the Run 5K, presented by Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation, will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 4 on the grounds of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, 6400 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. Over 1500 runners, volunteers and spectators are expected to attend the event.

The 5K race is open to men, women, boys and girls of all ages who will run alongside 500 local third through eighth-grade girls celebrating the end of their 10-week Girls on the Run session. After the race, a celebration including music, games, food and fun will be held for all who attend.

Complete details and on-line registration for the Girls on the Run 5K are online at with online registration available before 11:59 p.m. Thursday night, May 2. The online registration fee is $25 with pre-race day packets available at Varsity Sports on Friday, May 3. Packet Pick-up and Race-day registration is available with a $30 fee.

Proceeds from the 5K run benefit the Girls on the Run of Greater Baton Rouge scholarship fund, allowing more than 500 girls in need of financial assistance the chance to participate in the 10-week after school program in 2013.
