Angola Prison Museum to host golf tournament on May 3
The Louisiana State Penitentiary Museum Foundation, Inc. is hosting the first Annual Golf Tournament at Angola Prison on Friday, May 3. Judge George Hal Ware, Honorary Chair, invites golfers to participate in the tournament, which consists of an 18-hole round of golf at the Prison View Golf Course beginning at 8 a.m. and again at 1 p.m.
Cost is $100 per player or $400 per team. This includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch and tour of the Angola Museum and the Penitentiary. There will be a four-person scramble with prizes for first, second and third place, hole-in-one, longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest at noon and a silent auction of inmate art.
The foundation's goal is to raise funds for the preservation of historical sites on Angola. Currently in planning, is the restoration and preservation of the Waukesha Pumps that were originally built in 1940s to pump rain water off the penitentiary grounds into the Mississippi River. These projects are vital to the penitentiary and to the history of our state.
