East Ascension and Dutchtown pick up wrestling wins

With the wrestling season now picking up steam, East Ascension and Dutchtown each came through with big wins last week.

First, on Wednesday, the Spartans picked up an impressive victory by dominating Baton Rouge High 56-18. They won 10 of the 13 matches.

Some of the highlights of the competition came from Alex Betteridge beating Khoa Bui in the 120-pound division with a fall at 0:53.

Kamrin Griffin defeated Ethan Johnson in the 145-pound weight class with a fall at 1:13, and Ty Dang won the 160-pound match by topping Jarrett Moss by fall at 0:23.

When it came to the big boys, Zack Foreman won the 220-pound division with a fall over Chase Stuckey at 1:27, and Conor Karwatch defeated Christian Ford by fall at 0:30 to lock up the 285-pound division.

Other winners for East Ascension included: Jacob Bernard (120), Matthew Ashford (126), Mark Thompson (132), Nicholas Richard (138), Tyler Joyeaux (152), Adam Bosworth (170), Koi Malarcher (182) and Austin Guedry (195).

It was a big victory for the Spartans after having lost eight of their previous nine matches.

Next up for them, they'll compete in the Trey Culotta Invitational tournament.

As for Dutchtown, they earned a big win as well. The Griffins out-dueled Zachary on Thursday to cinch the 48-27 victory.

In the win, Aaron Arceneaux and Luther Jones each got victories in points.

However, five Griffins got wins by pinfall. These wins included: Charlie Pettiss (120), Austin Blades (126), Brandon Cowell (145), Austin Shelton (170) and Travis Goodman (220).
