Defending District 3-I champion St. Amant opened the high school volleyball season last week.

To start the action, they took on St. Michael and cruised to a straight-sets victory with 25-15, 25-10 and 25-20 wins.

The Lady Gators were led by Alli Duplechein at the net as she collected a match-high nine kills. She also had a match-high five blocks.

Maggie Duplechein and Kourtney Gremillion each led with 14 assists with Duplechein adding seven kills and Gremillion contributing six.

Kara Gremillion led the way when it came to digs as she chalked up 13 of them.

It was an impressive opening-day victory for St. Amant, but they couldn't keep up the momentum the next day. They fell to perennial power and last year's state runner-up Mount Carmel in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-8.

Mount Carmel got two great performances from Kristen Nuss and Jillian Clark. Nuss led the match with 11 kills, and Clark piled up 27 assists--which was also a match-high.

St. Amant got five kills from Maggie Duplechein and four kills from Alli Duplechein. Kara Gremillion once again led the match in digs with 15.

With the 1-1 record, the Lady Gators will get ready for tournament action at Dutchtown this week.
