It was a busy weekend for parish athletics outside the realm of basketball. The wrestling and indoor track teams wrapped up their seasons and competed for state titles.

In the LHSAA state wrestling championships in Kenner, East Ascension finished seventh, Dutchtown finished 13th and St. Amant ended the weekend at No. 18.

Like most of the season, the Spartans were led by Conor Karwath. Karwath defeated Fontainebleu's Christian Ponson in the finals to win the state title in the 285-pound division.

Jacob Benard finished in third place for the 120-pound division as he beat Madeville's Nicholas des Bordes.

Dutchtown got their best finish from Brandon Cowell as he finished second in the 145-pound weight class. He was defeated by Baton Rouge's James Claitor in the finals.

In the indoor state championships at LSU on Saturday, Dutchtown finished 12th as East Ascension ended their day in the No. 24 spot.

The Spartans got their best finish from recent Nicholls State football signee Devin Simoneaux as he placed third in the shot put with a measurement of 49 feet.

As for Dutchtown, recent ULL signee Tyler Hughes brought home a state title in the 60 hurdles. Hughes finished with a time of 8.06 seconds.
