St. Amant tennis teams split victories

The St. Amant tennis teams split victories last week against parish rival East Ascension and U-High.

Coming off of a tight 3-2 loss to Denham Springs, the boy's team blanked the Spartans, 5-0.

They started off with two victories in singles action. Brett LeBlanc beat East Ascension's Hayden Decoteau in a tight 7-5, 6-4 match. Luke Savoie beat the Spartans' Josh Kesler with ease, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Kase Savoy and Logan Ganaway beat Alex Zeingue and John Coletti by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. The St. Amant team of Logan Langlois and Steven Saucier then beat the team of Valin Fox and Scott Bonnette in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

The Lady Gators also blanked East Ascension, 5-0.

In singles, Victoria Buquet led the way as she beat the Lady Spartans' Taylor Meyers, 6-0, 6-4.

Angelle Naquin then beat Brooke Holley in two 6-1 games.

In doubles, the team of Julia Wright and Cassidy Guitrau beat East Ascension's Megan Muscarello and Ashlynn Parks, 6-2, 6-4.

Emma Frederic and Caitlin Denton beat Mary Ong and Victoria Luong, 6-0, 6-1, and the Lady Gator team of Sophia Belleu and Cassie Melancon beat Sarah Weber and Bailey Guidry, 6-2, 6-4.

However, St. Amant came down hard in their next matchups with U-High. Both the boys and girls were handed losses.

The boys were blanked by the Cubs, 5-0.

In singles action, U-High's Nelson Stafford won by forfeit while Carter Crutte rolled past Saucier by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

In doubles, Agnish Mukherjee and Martin Padial beat Savoy and Ganaway, 6-1, 6-1. JK Schwab and Alex Gardiner beat Trace Sheets and Michael Melancon by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

To finish things off, U-High's team of Ben Harris and Robert McDuff beat Langlois and Caje Frederic, 6-0, 6-1.

The Lady Gators didn't have it much easier. They were soundly beaten by U-High, 4-1.

St. Amant's lone victory came in singles competition when Naquin won her match by forfeit.

In the other singles match, Lady Cub Maggie Dabadie beat Buquet, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the U-High team of Billi Ropman and Elizabeth Armstrong beat Wright and Guitrau, 6-0, 6-0. Julia Leonard and Basia Walters beat Emma Frederic and Denton by scores of 7-5 and 6-1.

Finally, the Lady Cub team of Mary Margaret Sanchez and Madeline Sanchez beat Belleu and Cassie Melancon, 6-3, 6-3.
