Ascension schools dominate Livingston squads on the tennis court

It was Ascension parish versus Livingston parish in high school tennis last week and when the final serve bounced in play, Ascension was the overwhelming victor.

The St. Amant and Dutchtown boys and girl's tennis teams took on the likes of Walker and Live Oak. The two Ascension squads ended the day with four easy victories.

The St. Amant girls blanked Live Oak, 5-0.

The domination began in singles action as Lady Gator Victoria Buquet easily dispatched of Live Oak's Ashley McClary with 6-2 and 6-0 victories.

St. Amant earned another win when Angelle Naquin beat Lady Eagle Peyton Burke, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, it was all Lady Gators once again.

The team of Emma Frederic and Caitlin Denton blanked the team of Devyn Cropper and Anglea Bernard, 6-0, 6-0. Sophia Belleu and Cassie Melancon also blanked Heather Hembree and Emma James.

Finally, Julia Wright and Cassidy Guitrau beat Mackenzie McDonald and Bailey Coleman, 6-2, 6-0.

The St. Amant boys also blanked Live Oak by a 5-0 score.

Brett LeBlanc beat Ben Baker by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Luke Savoie then outlasted Nathan Holiday, 6-1, 7-6.

In doubles, it was three more wins for the Gators.

The team of Kase Savoy and Logan Ganaway beat Jordan Holloway and Trevor Landry, 6-2, 6-1. Trae Sheets and Michael Melancon beat Zach DelValle and Darin Allenman, 6-0, 6-1.

The third doubles match was won by St. Amant by way of a forfeit.

The Dutchtown boys and girls each picked up victories over Walker. The girls won their match, 4-1.

Their only loss came in singles when Walker's Katie Baudoin beat Dutchtown's Brooke Hillman in a great three-setter, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Caroline Swanson evened things up with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Libby Hill.

The Lady Griffins won their three doubles matches.

Abby Overstreet and Grace Overstreet defeated Jessica Broussard and Miranda East, 6-2, 6-3.

Also, Emile Ferguson and Sommer Seitz beat Lindsey Carlson and Madie Easley, 6-1, 6-1. Bailey Weidenbacher and Brooke Wusterbarth beat Abbie Boudreauz and Kylie Daigle, 6-0, 6-4.

The Dutchtown boys were able to blank Walker in their match, 4-0.

Tanner Hillman led the singles effort as he made easy work of Walker's Garrett Cotton, 6-0, 6-0. Evan Prejean also won his match as he beat Zack Savoy, 6-2, 6-3.

The Griffins won both doubles matches as well.

Troy Pontillas and Grant Bruillette beat Taylor Page and Tyler Page, 7-6, 6-1 while Dutchtown took the second match by way of a forfeit.
