The Ascension Catholic Lady Bulldogs are one step closer to a state championship.

They made it look easy in Sulphur on Thursday as they mauled third-seeded Central Catholic by a score of 11-3 to advance to the state semifinals.

This was the Lady Bulldogs’ 23rd victory of the season.

Ascension Catholic went undefeated in District 6-1A play this year to claim the league title. It was their fourth straight run of perfection in district.

They entered the Division-IV playoffs as the No. 6 seed.

They held off No. 11 Opelousas Catholic in the regional to punch their ticket to Sulphur for the sixth straight season. They are now back in the semifinals for the second time in three years.

They will play second-seeded False River at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. False River (24-7) snuck by the Lady Bulldogs’ district foe St. John, 4-1, in their quarterfinal matchup.

If Ascension Catholic wins, they will play in the Division-IV final at 7:30, on Saturday night.

The Lady Bulldogs are seeking their first state championship since 2000.
