Five parish softball teams make the playoff field

The LHSAA softball playoff brackets were released on Thursday afternoon, and five of the six parish teams made the field.

St. Amant garnered the highest seeding in the parish. The Lady Gators will enter the Class 5A playoffs as the No. 4 seed.

St. Amant went 29-2 during the regular season and enter the playoffs on a 16-game winning streak.

They went undefeated in District 5-5A for a sixth straight season, en route to winning another league championship.

In the opening round, they’ll face parish and district foe Dutchtown.

The Lady Griffins are the No. 29 seed as they finished the regular season with a 15-16 record.

St. Amant won both meetings between the two teams this season. They won those games by scores of 10-0 and 9-2.

Also in Class 5A, East Ascension makes its return to the playoffs after missing out last season. It’s their first playoff appearance under head coach Katie Ocmand.

They enter the postseason as the No. 18 seed. They went 18-11 during the regular season.

In the first round, they’ll visit No. 15 Pineville (14-14).

In Division IV, Ascension Catholic earned the sixth seed. The Lady Bulldogs went 21-9 during the regular season and won another district title.

Like St. Amant, they finished league play undefeated. It was their fourth straight perfect run in district.

In the opening round, they’ll host No. 11 Opelousas Catholic (12-14).

Also in the Division-IV playoffs will be Ascension Christian. The Lady Lions earned the No. 15 seeing after finishing with an 11-9 record.

In the first round, they’ll hit the road to play second-seeded False River (22-7).
