Many of the parish's girl's soccer standouts earned their spot on this year's All-District 5-5A team--including this year's Offensive and Defensive MVPs.

East Ascension's Kelsey Hutchison took the district's top defensive honor. The junior helped lead the Lady Spartans to the playoffs where they took out Sulphur in the opening round 2-1. It earned East Ascension a berth in the regional round, but they fell to No. 3 Fontainebleau 1-0.

Many of Hutchison's teammates joined her on the all-district team. In fact, the Lady Spartans had the third-most first-team selections with five--only behind Baton Rouge High and St. Joseph.

Rebecca Austin and Ally Miller both made the team as forwards, and Lynda Boylan made it as a goalkeeper. Kayla Bourgeois earned first-team honors as a midfielder.

For the second team, the junior Jana Gautreau was selected as a defender, and Marina Speligene made it as a midfielder.

As for the Dutchtown Lady Griffins, Ashley Alexander was named the district's Offensive MVP. Alexander helped lead Dutchtown to the postseason where they beat Barbe in the first round 2-1. In the regionals, they fell to top-ranked St. Scholastica 3-0.

Alexander was the Lady Griffins' lone occupant on the district's first-team squad. However, four Dutchtown players were selected to the second team.

Sarah Patterson, Molly Litten and Madison Quick all made it as midfielders, and junior Nicole Megginson earned second-team honors as a defender.

Finally, the St. Amant Lady Gators placed their share of players on the All-District 5-5A team. St. Amant made the playoffs but lost 1-0 in the opening round to district foe St. Joseph.

For their playoff run, three Lady Gators snagged first-team honors. Senior Destiny Bourgeois made it as a forward, Laken Picou was selected as a defender and Brooke Trabeau was recognized as a midfielder.

On the second team, Kirsten Despino and Maddie Edmonston both made it as forwards.
