Parish gymnasts earn big wins at LHSAA state meet

Last Saturday, parish girl's gymnastics teams traveled to Baton Rouge High to compete in the LHSAA state meet.
None of the squads could bring home a team title, but there were a few parish performers that won individual state championships.
In the overall team rankings, East Ascension finished as the top team in Ascension as they finished in fourth with a score of 217.90--just three points behind champion Caddo Magnet.
St. Joseph's Academy finished in second followed by E.D. White in third, and Catholic-New Iberia was fifth.
As for the other parish teams, St. Amant finished in seventh with a point total of 178.65, and Dutchtown took ninth with 141.35.
In Level 3, East Ascension's Hailey Copeland was the big winner as she took first in the bars with a score of 9.65 and first in all-around with 37.850.
She was second in the vault and third in both the beam and on the floor.
Dutchtown's Jana St. Germain was first in the beam at 9.300 and third in all-around at 37.350.
In Level 4, East Ascension's Katherine Hodges took first in the beam with a score of 9.70. St. Amant's Camille LeBlanc finished right behind with a score of 9.65.
LeBlanc also finished third on the bars and second in all-around with a score of 38.100.
Hodges finished sixth all-around.
Dutchtown's Haley Leonard finished in fifth in both the beam and all-around.
In Level 8, East Ascension's MacKenzie Westmoreland finished in seventh all-round after getting a third-place finish on the floor and a fifth-place finish on the bars.
