It was another week of high-school football in the books, and now, there are four Ascension Parish teams in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association polls.

Like last week, both St. Amant and East Ascension are in the top 15 of the Class 5A poll.

However, the Gators have jumped up three spots to No. 12.

St. Amant crushed two-time defending 3A champion Lutcher, 40-20, last Friday night to improve to 4-0 for the third year in a row.

This week, the Gators have to go on the road for the first time this season to play undefeated St. James—a team that’s ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.

East Ascension remained in the No. 15 spot this week.

The Spartans went on the road last Friday night and pulled away from Cecilia late to come away with a 44-31 victory. It improved their record to 3-1. That’s their best start since 2013.

This Friday night, East Ascension will face a tough test as they host undefeated St. Charles—a team that is ranked third in Class 3A.

St. Charles beat the Spartans, 22-0, last season.

West Monroe is ranked No. 1 in 5A. John Curtis, Evangel, Rummel and Acadiana round out the rest of the top five.

This week, Donaldsonville landed on the LSWA 3A poll for the first time this year.

The Tigers have raced out to a 4-0 start to the season. This is their best start since 2010.

Last Friday night, they crushed Morgan City at home, 44-6. The victory was good enough for Donaldsonville to shoot up to No. 11 in the 3A poll.

De La Salle is ranked No. 1, with University, St. Charles, Sterlington and West Feliciana rounding out the rest of the top five.

Ascension Catholic is still looming large in the Class 1A poll.

After demolishing Thomas Jefferson, 47-7, on Saturday night, the Bulldogs are ranked No. 13.

Ascension Catholic is a perfect 4-0 for the first time since 2014, and it’s only the eighth time in school history they’ve gotten off to such a great record.

They’ll get their biggest test of the young season on Friday night as they host undefeated Covenant Christian—who is ranked 10th.

Logansport is No. 1 in 1A, with Kentwood, Opelousas Catholic, Lafayette Christian and Haynesville rounding out the rest of the top five.
