The Louisiana Sports Writers Association released their weekly football polls yesterday, and three Ascension Parish teams ranked inside the top 15.

Two of those teams were on the Class 5A poll.

In 5A, West Monroe was ranked No. 1, followed by John Curtis, Evangel, Rummel and Acadiana.

Archrivals East Ascension and St. Amant were tied for 15th, with each team receiving two votes.

East Ascension is currently 2-1 and coming off of a tough 17-13 victory over Thibodaux on Friday night.

The Spartans will hit the road this week to face winless Cecilia.

As for St. Amant, the Gators have started the season a perfect 3-0 for the third straight year. This past Friday night, they cruised by West Jefferson, 42-6.

This week, they’ll host two-time defending Class 3A champion Lutcher.

It should be noted that East Ascension beat Lutcher on the road in week one, 30-13.

The other parish team to be in this week’s poll was Ascension Catholic.

The Bulldogs ranked No. 13 in Class 1A.

Ascension Catholic has gotten off to its best start since 2014, as they’ve surged to a 3-0 record.

Last Thursday night, they earned a hard-fought 13-6 road victory over Class 3A’s KIPP Renaissance.

This Saturday night, they’ll once again be on the road in New Orleans to face another 3A team in Thomas Jefferson.

Logansport ranked No. 1 in 1A, with Kentwood, Opelousas Catholic, Haynesville and Lafayette Christian rounding out the rest of the top five.
