The wait is over. Football season is here.

Sure, the weekends will belong to LSU and the Saints, but for the next three months, Friday nights will belong to our high-school football stars.

This week, teams from across the state will play their jamboree games, and next week, the regular season will officially begin.

As always, there is ample excitement in Ascension Parish as the six high-schools prepare to open up action. The year will undoubtedly carry with it tremendous individual performances from its best players.

Ralph Williams (East Ascension)

After losing a multi-year starter at running back in Josh Bates, East Ascension needed someone to step up in the backfield in 2016. Ralph Williams did just that. Despite an anemic passing game, the inexperienced Spartan was the team’s leading rusher and helped carry East Ascension to the second round of the playoffs. In their first-round upset win over sixth-seeded Ruston, Williams rushed for 254 yards and two scores. At the end of the season, he was named both first-team all-district and All-Parish.
