Five boy's basketball teams from Ascension make playoff field
On Monday evening, the LHSAA released its high-school boy's basketball playoff brackets, and five of the six schools in Ascension Parish made the postseason field.
In Class 5A, Dutchtown garnered the highest seed of the three local teams as they enter the postseason at No. 7. The Griffins went 19-9 during the regular season.
In the opening round, they will host No. 26 Captain Shreve, who went 18-13 during the year.
Next, East Ascension earned the No. 10 seed as they went 19-14 during the regular season. In the first round, they'll host No. 23 Denham Springs, who went 18-16 this year.
Finally, St. Amant will enter the Class 5A playoffs as the No. 13 seed (21-10). This will be the first playoff game played in the Gold Dome in 10 years.
They'll meet No. 20 West Jefferson. They finished the regular season with a 22-10 record.
In Class 3A, Donaldsonville earned the No. 7 seed after finishing the year with a 22-10 record.
In the opening round, they'll host District 10-3A foe St. James (14-20). They played the Wildcats twice this season. They won the first meeting, 71-47, but they lost their second encounter, 56-51.
And in the Division-IV playoffs, Ascension Catholic earned the No. 9 seed, which awarded them a first-round bye.
The Bulldogs had a great turnaround season. After winning just nine games last year, they finished this season with a 16-10 record.
In the second round, they'll go on the road to face No. 8 St. Martin's Episcopal, who went 13-9 this year.
