Parish basketball teams make postseason field

The LHSAA boy’s basketball playoff brackets have been released, and all six parish schools made the cut.

In Division IV, Ascension Catholic earned the No. 16 seed. They’ll host No. 17 False River (8-18) in the opening round.

The two teams played back on Dec. 27. Ascension Catholic won the game, 58-51.

Ascension Christian is the No. 21 seed. They’ll hit the road to face No. 12 St. Fredrick (17-12) in the opening round.

In Class 3A, Donaldsonville earned the No. 19 seed. In the opening round, they’ll visit No. 14 Jena (16-13).

In Class 5A, Dutchtown (16-9) was also awarded the No. 19 seed. In the first round, they’ll hit the road to face No. 14 Lafayette (14-10).

St. Amant (22-10) earned the second-highest seed in the parish at No. 13, after winning a share of the District 5-5A regular season title. They’ll host a first-round game at Dutchtown against No. 20 Airline (23-10).

Airline heads into the playoffs winners of 12 straight games.

These two teams met back on Dec. 1, during the Gold Dome Classic. St. Amant won a thriller, 54-53.

East Ascension (20-9) earned the highest seed in the parish at No. 5. The Spartans finished as runners-up at the District 5-5A tournament this past weekend.

In the opening round, they’ll host No. 28 Zachary (13-18).

The two teams met at a tournament at Walker back on Dec. 21. East Ascension won, 64-56.
