Dutchtown shocked Louisiana high-school baseball over the weekend as they went on the road and pulled off a regional series sweep over seventh-seeded Northshore to reach the quarterfinals.

This followed a 6-0 road upset over 10th-seeded Mandeville in the opening round. It was their first playoff victory in four years.

In game one against Northshore, Will Reed gave the Griffins a big boost from the mound. Northshore was held to seven hits for the game.

Duchtown battled back from a 4-2 deficit. They scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game and send it to an extra inning.

There, Ben Adams supplied an RBI single that ended up being the game-winner.

Cole Morrison was 1-4 with two big RBIs, while Cohen Parent went 1-2 and scored two runs.

In game two on Saturday, Dutchtown put Jack Merrifield back on the mound, and though he wasn’t as dominant as he was in the opening round, he was still terrific.

Merrifield pitched a complete game in which he allowed just two runs on five hits. He struck out 10 batters.

Down 1-0 heading to the fifth, Merrifield drew a leadoff walk. The courtesy runner eventually scored on a Brayden Caskey single to tie the game.

In the sixth, the Griffins took the lead with a two-RBI double by Frank Miller. It’s a lead Dutchtown was able to hold to complete the sweep.

From the plate, Miller went 1-3 with the two RBIs. Caskey was 1-3 with one RBI, and Jordan Badame went 2-3.

Prior to the series, Northshore had only lost three games all season. Dutchtown beat them twice in two days.

After suffering through an eight-game losing streak just a couple of weeks ago, the Griffins have now won five straight and eight of their last 10.

This is the first time they’ve reached the quarterfinals since 2014.

They will be on the road once again to face second-seeded Sam Houston (30-5) in a best-of-three series. Game one begins on Friday.
