Five-star quarterback Ty Simpson, a top Tennessee football target, commits to Alabama
Westview High School five-star quarterback Ty Simpson made his commitment to Alabama on Friday in a ceremony held in the gymnasium of Westview High School.
Simpson, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior, chose the Crimson Tide over Clemson and Tennessee football, among other schools.
Simpson is listed as the No. 2 recruit in the state of Tennessee in the class of 2022 behind St. Benedict lineman Walter Nolen. He is also listed as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the nation in the class of 2022 behind Ohio State commitment Quinn Ewers of Texas and LSU commitment Walker Howard of Louisiana.
Alabama now has four commitments in the class of 2022, but Simpson is the first five-star recruit to commit. He joins four-star linebacker Robert Woodyard, four-star tight end Elijah Brown and three-star defensive end Walter Bob.
Simpson helped lead the Chargers to the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs and was named a Mr. Football semifinalist. Westview was 7-5, the most wins by the program since 2014.
Simpson completed 124 of 203 passes for 1,888 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 311 yards and seven touchdowns.
