Last week, the LHSAA executive committee met and agreed on some wholesale changes for the districts and divisions across the state. Many Ascension Parish prep teams were affected.

The committee approved a two-year classification plan for basic districts and sports played in divisions, after two days of discussions.

There was a slight change for District 5-5A. This district applies to football, boys and girl's basketball, baseball, softball and track and field.

The district will still contain Baton Rouge (track and field only), Catholic of Baton Rouge (boy's sports only), Dutchtown, East Ascension, McKinley, St. Amant and St. Joseph's Academy (girl's sports only).

And now, they will add Woodlawn.

Woodlawn used to be part of District 5-5A for years, but in 2015, they dropped down to Class 4A.

The two Donaldsonville schools will see significant changes in their districts.

For the past two years, Donaldsonville High has been a part of District 10-3A, which contained the likes of rival St. James, St. Charles, Lusher Charter, Haynes Academy and De La Salle.

Now, they will be moving to District 9-3A. St. James will be joining them.

The district will be a mix of new and old for Donaldsonville. Along wit St. James, they will be joined by old district rivals in Berwick, Patterson and E.D. White.

Another team in the new district will be Lutcher. Lutcher's inclusion happens as a result of the school dropping down from Class 4A.

Ascension Catholic also has a big change ahead. They are moving from District 6-1A to District 7-1A.

No longer will they be sharing a league with Southern Lab and Kentwood. Southern Lab is staying put in District 6, and Kentwood is jumping up to Class 2A.

Joining Ascension Catholic in the move from District 6 to District 7 will be parish rival Ascension Christian, along with East Iberville, St. John and White Castle.

When it comes to division sports, there were widespread changes as well.

For boy's soccer, Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant will remain in District 5, along with H.L. Bourgeois and Thibodaux. However, they will lose East St. John and Hahnville and add Central Lafourche.

The Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant girls will see drastic changes as they move from District 5 to District 4.

Their new league counterparts will be Denham Springs, Live Oak and Walker.

When it comes to Division-I volleyball, there will be one small tweak.

Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant will remain in District 4 with Walker. Although, Denham Springs will leave the district in exchange for Live Oak.

In Division IV, Donaldsonville will leave District 3 and join District 5. This league includes John Curtis, Thomas Jefferson, St. Charles, St. James and Patrick Sci Taylor.

In Division-I, Ascension Christian leaves their district to join parish foe Ascension Catholic in District 3.

Ascension Christian was in District 5 with Louisiana School for Deaf, Family Christian, East Iberville and Dunham.

Now, they'll be in a district with Ascension Catholic, East Iberville, St. John and White Castle.

The plans go into effect in 2019-20.
