St. Amant senior Briggs Bourgeois capped off his incredible high-school career last night when he was named the Baton Rouge area’s male Athlete of the Year.

This was the second year in a row he had been a finalist for the award. His fellow finalists in 2017 were Scotlandville’s Levi Lewis and Livonia’s Patrick Queen (LSU signee).

Bourgeois had another tremendous athletic year.

It started with him helping lead the St. Amant football team to the state quarterfinals as he excelled at wide receiver, kicker and kick returner.

He was named District 5-5A MVP, first-team All-Parish and he was a first-team All-State kicker.

Bourgeois signed with Southern Miss for his kicking exploits.

He then moved on to soccer—where he again led St. Amant to the state quarterfinals.

Bourgeois won the district MVP for the fourth straight season. He was also named the Offensive MVP on the All-State team and the Overall MVP on the All-Metro squad.

He finished his year as the starting centerfielder for the Gator baseball team. They reached the second round of the playoffs.

Also, St. Amant’s Taylor Tidwell was a finalist for the female Athlete of the Year award, but Zachary’s Janie O’Connor came away with the trophy.

Tidwell—a junior LSU softball commit—was the district MVP in volleyball. In softball, she was first-team all-district.

She helped lead the Lady Gators to the state quarterfinals in both sports.
