Recently, two of Ascension's best athletes were awarded scholarships.

Former St. Amant standout Kara Gremillion was one of two students to receive a $2,500 Fodale Leadership scholarship. Barbe swimmer Zachary Stump earned the scholarship as well.

Gremillion is on her way to play softball at UL-Lafayette now that her heralded career has come to a close at St. Amant.

She was recently named All-State in softball as she helped lead the Lady Gators to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the state semifinals.

She was also named district MVP in all three sports she played this season--softball, basketball and volleyball.

In addition to those accolades, she was named the area's female Athlete of the Year, and she was also named Gatorade Louisiana Softball Player of the Year.

Along with Gremillion, Ascension Catholic's Zach Capello joined Berwick's Shannon Theriot, St. Charles Catholic's Jeffrey Millet and Hahnville's Brice Soignier as the recipients of the Allstate Sugar Bowl $1,500 scholarship.

Capello had an amazing track career with the Bulldogs. He will soon be headed to Yale to continue his career of excellence.

He helped the Ascension Catholic boys finish eighth at the state meet this season.

Individually, Capello took state titles in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. It made four years in a row he won individual championships in those two events.

He also made the All-Metro and All-State track teams.
