Many local standouts compete in High School Rodeo

This past weekend, the S.E. High School Rodeo came to the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, and many young local rodeo standouts competed and finished strongly.

The best finish of the weekend went to Dutchtown's Cody Martinez as he finished second in bull riding. Martinez had a 79-point ride in the high school division.

Also in the high school ranks, Elise Guillory of East Ascension finished fifth in goat tying with a time of 8.7 seconds. Dutchtown's Kassie deVeer finished seventh in the same category with a time of 9.36.

Guillory and deVeer also earned top-10 finishes in additional events.

In barrel racing, deVeer came through with an eighth-place finish at 16.891. Guillory finished ninth in breakaway roping.

There were also a few junior-high participants from the parish that finished with high marks.

St. Theresa of Avila's Tanzi Stafford finished fifth in the girl's goat tying with a time of 11.01 seconds.

Ascension Catholic's Cody Waguespack earned a seventh-place finish in the boy's breakaway with a time of 12.05.

Also, Galvez Middle School's Trey Hebert had a strong showing in the calf roping as he finished with a time of 17.96.
