Dutchtown star Landon Collins presented Under Armour All-American jersey

GEISMAR – Cameras crowded around Dutchtown football standout Landon Collins Thursday morning.
It was another shining moment for the star safety, generally regarded as one of the best high school defenders in the nation. Representatives of the American Family Insurance Selection Tour visited the school to officially present Collins with his jersey for the fifth annual Under Armour All-America High School Game, which is set for Jan. 5, 2012 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. ESPN?will broadcast the game.
Several star players have participated in past games, such as Julio Jones, Trent Richardson and Landry Jones.
Collins had his family, coaches and many other supporters by his side as he raised his jersey in front of a throng of media cameras.
A soft-spoken young man known for hard hits on the field, Collins remained humble in accepting the honor. He thanked his parents, teachers and fans for all of their support.
His head coach, Benny Saia, said Dutchtown has been fortunate to have so many talented players come through the ranks at the school. He mentioned former Griffins greats Eddie Lacy, Kelvin York and Eric Reid, a current LSU star who was in attendance at the ceremony.
Saia said he enjoys turning on the television on Saturday and seeing his former players in the college ranks. He also hopes to see them playing on Sundays in the NFL.
“It’s been an honor to have them at Dutchtown,”?he said.
The Selection Tour is an expansion to the 2012 event. As part of American Family Insurance’s involvement with the game, the events will raise awareness around teen driving safety.
