Ascension Catholic notches district win over Ascension Christian

Ascension Christian’s Jacob Puryear drops back to pass against Ascension Catholic Thursday night in Donaldsonville.

DONALDSONVILLE?– Ascension Catholic recorded a 28-6 win Thursday night over District 9-1A foe Ascension Christian at Floyd Boutte Stadium.

Ascension Catholic opened the scoring early when quarterback Collin Rowland connected with Jake Lejeune on a touchdown pass. Fullback Cade Schexnayder added another score from 4 yards out.

Kicker Robert Landry hit the first of two field goals to give the Bulldogs a 17-0 lead after the first.

Ryan Rodrigue, Matt Reed and Delmond Landry keyed the defensive effort for the home team.

Rowland later added a scoring pass to Thomas Gros.

A safety and a 34-yard field goal by Landry rounded out the scoring.

The Lions scored a late touchdown to avoid a shutout.

Ascension Catholic (3-5, 1-2) will play at East Iberville Friday, while Ascension Christian will host White Castle.
