West St. John drops Ascension Catholic
Three top-10 teams in Class 1A have faced the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs in as many weeks.
The Donaldsonville team suffered a 47-19 setback Friday to West St. John at Floyd Boutte Stadium.
The Rams held a commanding 28-7 lead in the opening quarter.
Ascension Catholic senior linebacker Trent Burgess recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs their only points of the first half.
Ascension Catholic quarterback Collin Rowland connected with wide receiver Alex Olivier on a 75-yard touchdown pass in the second half. Rowland also found wide receiver Thomas Gros on a 44-yard scoring strike.
The visiting Rams from Edgard more than doubled Ascension’s Catholic total offensive output (512 yards to 199).
Ascension Catholic fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in District 9-1A.
The Bulldogs host Ascension Christian Thursday night.
