Donaldsonville falls to Assumption

Jaquel Grant caught a touchdown pass and conversion from Leandre James to account for Donaldsonville’s only points in a loss to Assumption.

The Assumption Mustangs stormed Donaldsonville’s Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium Friday night, taking a convincing 27-8 win.

“Despite the weather, our team fought hard enough to get a victory,”?Assumption head coach Don Torres said.

Torres added that hee was proud of his defense and how the offense came through for them.

The Mustangs gained the advantage in the first quarter after a botched punt at the 14-yard line, and DeJuawn Oliver scored a 14-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter Jaylon Knockum for the Mustangs added another touchdown.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the Tigers were able to score. Leandre James threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Jaquel Grant, putting the Tigers on the board. They also combined on the two-point conversion.

“Our young guys made some mistakes,” said Donaldsonville head coach Terence Williams. “We just have to learn to make plays.”

Donaldsonville had 130 yards offense, and 36 yards rushing.

Assumption had 251 yards rushing and a total of 310 yards offense.
