Dutchtown tops East Ascension in second game of jamboree

A lone touchdown was enough for Dutchtown to down East Ascension in the second game of the annual Ascension jamboree Friday night in Gonzales.
Dutchtown running back Antoine Margras, a junior, carried around the right side as the Griffins struck from within the red zone on the touchdown. The score came at the 2:37 mark in the 15-minute game.
The Griffins started the match with the ball, but was forced to punt.
Dutchtown also turned the ball over on a fourth down that resulted in a batted pass by East Ascension's Ruben Stephens.
The Griffins answered with an electrifying punt return by Landon Collins.
The Griffins would suffer a turnover, though. East Ascension's D'Andre Darville recovered a fumble to set up the Spartans.
East Ascension was forced to punt, then the Griffins mounted a drive.
After a pass from Mason Nickens to Shelby Christy for a first down, Darville snagged an interception and appeared to have a clear path to a touchdown. The play was called back due to penalty.
Magras capped the scoring drive with the touchdown carry that proved to be the game-clinching play.
