Dutchtown junior linebacker Landon Collins has been named to the Class 5A All-State first team.

Landon Collins, a defensive back, return specialist and soon-to-be running back for the Dutchtown Griffins, ranks as No. 17 on the Rivals 250 prospect ranking.

He is the highest-ranked of the seven Louisiana players on the list.

The 6-foot, 199-pound incoming senior is one of just 17 players with five stars on the list. His profile lists his 40-yard dash time as 4.43, his shuttle as 4.48 and vertical as 36 inches.

Several major college programs have expressed interest. LSU, Alabama and Florida are just a few of the powerhouse programs recruiting Collins.

Both LSU and Alabama have ties to the Dutchtown program. Former Griffins standout running back Eddie Lacy currently plays for head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Eric Reid, a former star defensive back for Dutchtown, now plays for head coach Les Miles' Tigers.

Prior to making a final decision on a college, Collins will have opportunities to show his talents on the field this fall. Dutchtown head coach Benny Saia has said that Collins will figure into the running game, as the Griffins have graduated speedy standouts like last season's starting quarterback Leon Blouin (now at Tulane University) and workhorse running back Effrem Reed (now at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette).
