St. Amant closes season with 39-36 overtime win over Destrehan

St. Amant fell short of making the playoffs, but ended the season with a thrilling victory, taking a 39-36 overtime win over Destrehan Friday.

St. Amant senior Britton Day scored on a 2-yard run in overtime to put the Gators (5-5, 2-3) on top for good.

Destrehan (3-7, 1-4) had settled for a 24-yard field goal by Daniel Cimino on its opening possession of the extra period.

St. Amant rallied from a 33-23 deficit to force overtime.

Senior quarterback Jaylin LeBlanc found Dalton Alexander for a 47-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 33-30. The pair also connected on a 78-yard score earlier in the game.

LeBlanc also scored on a 21-yard touchdown run.

Senior kicker Justin Manton tied the game at 33-33 at the end of regulation when he hit a 28-yard field goal. Manton opened the scoring in the first quarter when he made a 49-yard field goal.

St. Amant’s Cameron Morris added a touchdown on a 4-yard carry.

Kevin Smith led Destrehan with a pair of touchdowns on runs of 25 and 35 yards. Tarquin Kenner had a 7-yard scoring run and a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
