All three of Ascension Parish's District 6-5A teams claimed shutouts in the Ascension-Livingston Jamboree Challenge, including host East Ascension, which glided past Albany 37-0 Friday night.

In the first game of the Friday night slate, East Ascension capitalized early on a fumble recovery by defensive end Dex Templet at the Albany 9 yard line. Running back Jarmarcus Jarvis scored two plays later on a 2-yard carry. Kicker Michael Stafford's extra point gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead 48 seconds into the contest.

East Ascension's defense came up with another turnover when linebacker Wade Julien intercepted a pass and returned it to the Albany 25. On the next play, quarterback Emerson Foster threw a touchdown pass to Randell Williams.

The Spartans added to their lead with 4:50 left in the first half when Stafford kicked a 32-yard field goal.

In the second half, the Spartans scored on their first possession as Jarvis reached the end zone on a 44-yard run.

Sione Palelei scored on a 33-yard touchdown run on the next series. With 11:20 remaining, East Ascension held a 30-0 lead.

Ruben Stephens scored the Spartans' final score on a 1-yard touchdown run.

Not only did East Ascension's offense strike often, the Spartan defense was particularly stingy in holding Albany to minus-24 yards rushing.

"Our kids executed when we needed it," East Ascension head coach John Lambert said. "We knew the kids were hungry to get out here. They were tired of hitting each other. We got some good film, and nobody was hurt. We're confident and ready to play."
