It didn't take long for Dutchtown to get a jump on Walker Friday night in the final match-up of the Ascension-Livingston Jamboree Challenge.
Dutchtown senior running back Effrem Reed got the call on the second play from scrimmage and scampered 81 yards. Running back Austen Brown finished the quick-strike drive when he scored on a 1-yard run on the next play.
The Griffins wouldn't look back for the rest of the night, as they throttled Walker 31-0.
It took just over five minutes for the Griffins to mount a 17-0 lead. Graham Wilfong kicked a 46-yard field goal with 10:13 left in the first half. On the next scrimmage play, defensive back Johnathan Darville broke up a pass that Lucas Shipman returned 19 yards for a touchdown.
Reed scored again with 33 second to go in the half. He carried around the left end for a 10-yard touchdown.
Dutchtown's lead stood at 24-0 at the half.
The Griffins added another score at the 12:11 mark in the second half. After forcing Walker to punt, Dutchtown quarterback Leon Blouin ran 33 yards for a touchdown.
Blouin completed 5 of 8 passes for 71 yards. Mason Nickens caught four passes for 61 yards.
"You're always happy with a shutout," Dutchtown head coach Benny Saia said. "We made some mistakes. We jump into the fire next week with Lutcher. We're pleased, certainly, but we're not satisfied."
"I thought the defense played well," he said. "The offense is not hitting on all cylinders yet, but we've only been in it for 20 days. I knew it would be bumpy, but we're building on it, and it'll get better down the road."
