Spartan-Gator shout-out set for Oct. 22
It’s football season again in Ascension Parish, so that means East Ascension and St. Amant fans are gearing up for the annual “shout out” tradition.
The Spartan/Gator Club is getting ready for the annual pep rally, set for Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6-8 p.m., just ahead of the Oct. 23 game between the schools at Spartan Stadium.
The winning school earns the 2009 “spirit stick”
In addition to the shout out competition and pep rally, the annual golf tournament will be held Oct. 12 at the Pelican Point Lakes course.
The Spartan/Gator Club is a non-profit organization that supports the youth of the two high schools.
Over the last several years, the club has raised funds to be shared by the school booster clubs.
The money goes toward athletic teams and programs at both schools.
The shout out was brought back last year and was able to raise $8,000 for each school.
Coordinators again this year are James E. LeBlanc, Alan Marrero, Bubba Richard, Ralph Delatte and Jodi Fife.
This year’s event will be held in the Cabelas parking lot.
Jambalaya will be sold to benefit the club. It will be sold throughout the day Oct. 22 at the LeBlanc’s Payless store in Gonzales.
The band Side Effects will perform, as well as the St. Amant and East Ascension bands. Also set to perform are the schools’ cheerleaders, flag squads and dancers.
Each school’s administration and coaching staff will be on hand. There will also be a presentation from the golf tournament.
Sponsorships for the event are available.
Teams and sponsors are being sought for the golf tournament. Sponsorships for the tournament include a $1,500 sponsorship, and other sponsorships offered are $500, $250 and $100.
For information on the tournament, contact Randall Aldridge, Myles Bourque, Brett Hughes, Lyson Porta, Easton Roth, Bill Delaune, Fritz Englade Jr., James E. LeBlanc or Wayne McDonald.
EATEL is this year’s corporate sponsor for the event. Also sponsoring the event are Don’s Seafood, Layne’s Jewelry, LeBlanc’s Payless and Cabelas.
A meeting will be held Sunday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the St. Amant Fire Station off Stringer Bridge Road. The meeting is open to the public.
Volunteers are needed to help plan the event.
Shirts will be sold for $12 each.
