MARLIN OUT:UL basketball coach will again miss games due to COVID-19

This is the second time this season a Cajuns men’s game has been canceled. UL’s Dec. 20 home game was not played due to COVID-19 issues within the Loyola (Louisiana) program.

UL’s win over Arkansas State was the first for coach Bob Marlin after he and five Cajuns missed wins at Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina due to COVID issues. It was the second time in two seasons Marlin has tested positive for COVID.

UL's game Saturday night vs. Little Rock was canceled due to COVID-19 issues.

According to a recently announced Sun Belt ruling, men’s and women’s basketball games that cannot be played due to the virus will be canceled, considered a no-contest and will not be rescheduled. A team is required to play if it has seven available players, scholarship or non-scholarship, plus one full-time coach. Teams may opt, however, to play with fewer than seven players.

Meanwhile, the UL women’s basketball team’s games last Thursday night at Arkansas State and Saturday at Little Rock both were canceled due to COVID-19 issues.

Both games were canceled before the Cajuns left on their two-game trip.

UL’s women (9-3, 1-1) are coming off a 78-72 win on Jan. 1 at Texas State. The Cajuns’ next game is Thursday (6 p.m., ESPN+) against Troy at the Cajundome.
