Former Dutchtown football and track standout Tyler Hughes hasn't wasted any time making an impact at UL-Lafayette.

The true freshman recently set a Sun Belt Conference indoor track championship record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Hughes edged out Arkansas State's Billy Ellis to win the event with a time of 8.07 seconds at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Birmingham, Ala.

The great effort by Hughes helped UL-Lafayette finish fifth in the event.

Hughes won the state title in the 110-meter hurdles last year at Dutchtown. He also finished third in the 330-meter hurdles. He holds school records in both events.
