LSU softball announces winter camp

Matt Dunaway
LSU softball's second-year head coach Beth Torina.

The LSU softball program will play host to its Winter Elite Camp on Jan. 19-20 at the LSU Indoor Football Facility and Tiger Park. The hitting/defense and pitching camps are open to any and all participants in between the ages of 7 and 18.

Cost of the two-day sessions is $225, which will run from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on both days. Online applications and detailed explanations on all sessions can be found at or by contacting volunteer assistant coach Sharonda McDonald at

LSU finished its inaugural season under Torina with a 40-25 record and made the program's third appearance at the Women's College World Series. It marked the 14th time in 16 seasons that the Tigers finished with at least 40 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997.

LSU is slated to return 14 letterwinners for the 2013 campaign sparked by NFCA First-Team All-America Rachele Fico along with All-SEC Freshman pick A.J. Andrews.

The Tigers open their fall campaign with a quartet of games against Lamar [Saturday - 4:30 p.m.], Belhaven [Saturday - 7 p.m.], Northwestern State [Sunday - 2 p.m.] and LSU-Eunice [Sunday - 4 p.m.]. Admission is free to all fall contests at Tiger Park.
