Why hasn't Jack Bech been more involved in LSU football offense? Brian Kelly blames himself
Bech, after having a breakout freshman season, has two receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown this season for the Tigers (2-1).
"I think, quite frankly, as coaches and it starts with me, we've got to get him more involved. And you're going to begin to see that take place this weekend," Kelly said during his weekly SEC teleconference on Wednesday.
Bech was a limited participant during most of the preseason due to a stress fracture. Because of the injury, Kelly has said that they've been "very careful" in bringing him back into the fold.
But now, with New Mexico (2-1) coming to Tiger Stadium on Saturday (6:30 p.m., ESPN+), Kelly insists that Bech is 100% and ready to play more.
"Jack's doing everything he's been asked of," Kelly said. "There shouldn't be any narrative out there that he hasn't or he's injured."
Sevyn Banks expected to make debut
Kelly said cornerback Sevyn Banks is expected to make his debut for the Tigers on Saturday.
Banks dressed but did not appear in LSU's 31-16 win last week over Mississippi State, despite Kelly saying earlier in the week that he was on 'the cusp of playing." He also sat out LSU's first two contests due to injury.

"We feel like he's right there. And we believe that this is the weekend that he'll finally get some playing time," Kelly said on Wednesday.
Kelly told reporters on the Monday before the Mississippi State game that Banks wanted to play in LSU's season opener against Florida State, but the Tigers' medical staff kept him out to "make sure that he was 100%."
Banks transferred in from Ohio State this offseason after being a starter the last two seasons with the Buckeyes. He was a third-team preseason All-American in 2021 and played a key role in Ohio State's 2020 run to the national championship game.
