See LSU football's shocking blocked extra point to end Florida State game
A late fumble recovery, a fortunate review and a touchdown on the final play was not enough for LSU football to complete its comeback against Florida State on Sunday in New Orleans.
It was quite the final couple minutes. First, LSU's defense got a stop down 24-17 with 2:15 left. But Malik Nabors muffed the FSU punt (his second muffed punt of the game), which was recovered by the Seminoles for a seemingly game-clinching 1st and goal. Except it wasn't.
Florida State running back Treshaun Ward, in the wildcat formation, took a direct snap on 3rd and goal from the LSU 1 but fumbled. LSU's Mekhi Wingo recovered.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Tigers offense had 99 yards to navigate in 1 minute, 20 seconds. And they did.

The Tigers got down to the FSU 2-yard line with a second left, with Mason Taylor seemingly falling out of bounds on a 17-yard catch-and-run play. Florida State coach Mike Norvell challenged the play, and Taylor's knee was judged to be down inbounds. The Big 12 officiating crew determined that LSU would get one more play, since Taylor's catch was a first down and the clock would have stopped for a few moments anyway.
Florida State then called timeout. Daniels threw a 2-yard touchdown strike to Jaray Jenkins up the seam, seemingly sending the game to overtime with the extra point pending.
Extra point pending does not mean extra point guaranteed.
Damian Ramos, who had a field goal try blocked in the first half, had his extra point try blocked by a leaping and stretching Shyheim Brown, a Florida State defensive back coming from the left side of the protection.
The game ended there. Florida State won, and LSU lost in Game 1 of Year 1 of the Brian Kelly era. The Tigers' attempted comeback from 14 points down fell one point shy of overtime.
