A slew of Ascension players took part in the U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl on Sunday at BREC's Olympia Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The Black Knights found room for 12 of the parish's best on the roster as they competed against the Rough Riders.

The Chad Mahaffey-coached squad featured East Ascension's own Layne Trahan at quarterback. Trahan was a first-team all-district selection this year as he helped guide the Spartans to a 8-2 record and trip to the second round of the playoffs.

Trahan's teammate Deandre Darville joined him at linebacker. Darville was a first-team all-district selection this year and was also named District 5-5A Defensive MVP.

Also, defensive lineman Dominique Williams joined them along with Mason Bateman. Williams was a first-team all-district selection while Bateman was honorable mention.

Dutchtown and St. Amant each sent four players to the Red Stick Bowl as well.

The Griffins' representatives were led by cornerback Tyler Hughes and tackle John Gallman. Both were first-team all-district players.

Ducthtown was also represented by linebacker Darrell Hardnett and receiver Cameron Joshua.

Each player was a second-team all-district selection this past year as the Griffins went 8-2, won a share of the district title and made a run to the state quarterfinals.

As for St. Amant, first-team all-district players in linebacker Payton Triche and offensive lineman Turner Simmers joined the squad.

Also, a second-team all-district performer in defensive end Tevin Milan joined them along with defensive tackle Tyler Johnson--who was honorable mention all-district.

Those four Gators helped lead St. Amant to a 6-4 record this year and trip to the playoffs.
