LSU running back Alfred Blue was among 63 preseason candidates for the 2013 Doak Walker Award, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced last week.

The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.

Blue, a 6-foot-2 senior from Boutte, missed all but three games of the 2012 season with a knee injury. He started the first three games of the season and had more than 100 yards in the first two before suffering the injury against Idaho. Along with 270 yards rushing before the injury, Blue caught seven passes out of the backfield.

Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 14, and finalists will be announced on Nov. 25. The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 12, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February of 2014.

The award, in its 24nd year, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

He is also one of 10 Tigers that were named to the media's Preseason All-Southeastern Conference football teams, while the Tigers were picked third in the SEC Western Division.

Defensive tackle Anthony Johnson and safety Craig Loston led the LSU contingent with first-team nods, while linebacker Lamin Barrow was named to the second team. Linebacker Tahj Jones and defensive back Jalen Mills were on the defensive third team.

On the offensive side, four Tigers were listed on the third team including Blue, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and offensive linemen La'el Collins and Josh Williford.

Odell Beckham Jr. was named first-team return specialist and second-team all-purpose player.
