Camp Shriver comes back to Ascension in November

Once again, Camp Shriver will be making its way to Ascension Parish in 2015.

It will take place Nov. 23-25, at Gonzales City Municipal Park at 911 Meylan Drive. Registration and sign-in will start at 8:30 a.m., and the camp will last from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m each day.

Camp Shriver is a place for people with intellectual disabilities to lean new sports skills and improve individual sports performance, participate in individual and team sports, build friendships and have fun with partners that have signed on and trained as camp volunteers.

The camp will be social, as well as athletic.

Campers will come from public and private schools, volunteer agencies and the local community.

Some of the sports that campers will participate in include: soccer, kickball, tennis, volleyball, bocce and horseshoes.

Camp Shriver will be for participants ages 14 and up.

Lunch and snacks will be provided.
