Howard Green Jr. receives parish proclamation
Former LSU standout and NFL veteran Howard Green Jr., received an Ascension parish proclamation from Parish President Tommy Martinez last week during a visit to the parish administration building.
President Martinez read the proclamation aloud at the Feb. 7 parish council meeting in Donaldsonville stating Feb. 9, 2013, was "Howard Green Jr. Day in Ascension Parish." Green was unable to attend the meeting to receive the proclamation. Green played high school football for the Donaldsonville Tigers and was a Class 3A All-State selection during his junior and senior years. As an LSU Tiger, Green garnered 77 tackles and four sacks in two seasons, with three of those sacks being made in the 2002 Sugar Bowl victory over the University of Illinois.
He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft and continued playing defensive nose tackle with the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers.
Howard made a key play in the Green Bay Packers' 31-25 Super Bowl XLV victory over the Pittsburg Steelers when he hit quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's arm forcing an interception returned for a touchdown.
