This past weekend, over 600 people converged on the Gonzales Municipal Park for one reason: tennis. There were 200 players participating in the second annual Gonzales Junior Grand Prix Tennis Tournament.

According to Darren Boone, tournament director, the first match took the court on Friday at 4:30 p.m., and the 277th (and final) match was concluded on Sunday at 7:30 pm.

All of the boys and girls were divided into six age-group divisions of play, which were then divided into two sub-groups (ranked and unranked). The ages ranged from 6 to 18 years old.

Trophies and medals were awarded to the champion and runner-up of each division.

This tournament was made possible through the cooperative effort of the City of Gonzales, the Ascension Tennis Association(ATA), the United States Tennis Association(USTA), dozens of local business sponsors and the work of many volunteers.
