The Ascension Catholic Lady Bulldogs won their fifth straight game Friday night by smashing Westlake 12-1 on the road.

Ascension Catholic lost their season-opener--a 9-4 affair to Berwick, but they followed it up with four straight victories prior to their meeting with Westlake. They won those games by a combined margin of 48-11.

The gaudy numbers continued for them Friday night as they got a run to start the game and busted out for three in the third to take a 4-1 lead.

Already up big, the Lady Bulldogs erupted for seven runs in the fifth to jump on top 11-1 and then scored an insurance run in the sixth to lock up the dominating 12-1 win.

Natalie Landry collected the victory from the mound for Ascension Catholic. Westlake was held to only four hits for the game.

Deja Cutno led the way for the Lady Bulldogs offensively. She went 3-4 with three RBIs while Nancy Guillot also went 3-4 with one RBI. Sydni Gregoire went a perfect 3-3 with an RBI.

As good as Ascension Catholic looked in the blowout win, they struggled mightily in the tournament in Sulphur over the weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs were forced to step way up in class and face Sulphur and Brusly. As one might expect, they had trouble keeping up. They lost to Sulphur 9-4 and was hammered by Brusly 15-0.

Things don't get any easier this weekend as they prepare for a tournament at St. John.
