Area volleyball teams get byes in first round

Ascension Catholic received the No. 4 seed and a bye in Division V.

Three Ascension Parish volleyball teams received byes in the opening round of the state volleyball playoffs.

No. 4 seed St. Amant and No. 6 seed Dutchtown were both idle this week in Division I.

No. 20 East Ascension traveled to Lake Charles to face No. 13  Barbe. The winner will meet St. Amant next week.

Dutchtown awaits the winner of No. 11 Slidell and No. 22 Grace King.

Ahead of the local teams are No. 1 Mt. Carmel, No. 2 Dominican and No. 3 Fontainebleau.

In Division V, No. 4 Ascension Catholic received a bye. The Bulldogs await the winner of No. 13 Northside Christian and No. 20 Hamilton Christian.

No. 19 Ascension Christian took on No. 14 Ecole Classique.

The top seeds are No. 1 Metairie Park Country Day, No. 2 Episcopal-Acadiana and No. 3 Central Catholic.
