Dutchtown’s Brooke Bahlinger sends a shot over Carencro’s Lauren Mouton in bi-district action. The Lady Griffins were eliminated 25-10, 25-6, 25-13 by Mount Carmel Tuesday evening in the regional playoffs.

NEW?ORLEANS – No. 2 seed Mount Carmel swept Dutchtown 25-10, 25-6, 25-13 in the regional playoffs Tuesday night at MCHS’s gym.

“Against a team like that, which didn’t make a whole lot of mistakes, it is hard to fall behind especially when we made as many mistakes as we did,”?Dutchtown head coach Patrick Ricks said. “We just didn’t pass the ball very well. That was our biggest downfall. We just could not control the ball and they just did a great job of continuing to put the ball in play and finding weaknesses in our defense.”

Mount Carmel (37-5) advanced to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State?Tournament at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner against No. 10 St. Scholastica Thursday evening. No. 15 seed Dutchtown finished the season with a 25-13 overall record.

“To be honest, I just think the main difference was their experience and they just went out and played their game,” Ricks said. “I felt like we just kind of got caught up in the bigness and didn’t play well at all.”

Dutchtown was the District 3-I runner-up with an 8-2 record.

“The girls stepped up this year and going into the last game of the regular season we had a chance to win the district championship,” Ricks said. “You can’t really ask for a whole lot more than that. I just wish we would have been a little more consistent throughout the year.”
