St. Amant’s Kelly Luquette signed a scholarship to Troy State University in Alabama Wednesday afternoon in the Gold Dome. Luquette hit .275 last season as a junior with 39 runs and 21 RBIs while stealing 15 bases. She has played second base, third base and outfield in her career. “The campus made me feel right at home and I just loved their complex,” Luquette said. “I felt like it was right and this was where I could spend the next four years playing ball. I am expecting to go in and do very well on the field and become a better ball player.” As a sophomore she scored 47 runs and stole 23 bases. “We have been fortunate to have incredible student athletes in the St. Amant softball program and Kelly has put in a lot of hard work,” St. Amant head coach Scott Nielson said. “With her abilities in the classroom and on the field, she is going to be successful.” Pictured are St. Amant head softball coach Scott Nielson, Ronnie Luquette, dad; Kelly Luquette, Ginger Luquette, mom; and St. Amant principal Steve Westbrook.
